CEN is an independent, non profit service oriented, policy, research and implementation organisation focusing on research based education and advocacy campaigns with policy inputs and implementation on issues related to sustainable energy use and environmental conservation.

Vision: Towards Clean and Sustainable Environment for All

CEN's missions are:

  • To educate and aware people on issues related to climate change, energy and other environmental issues.
  • To work for reducing air pollution and global warming impacts to natural and human system.

The objectives of CEN are:

  • Investigate issues relevant to energy, environment and climate change
  • Facilitate discussions, information sharing and knowledge management among key stakeholders
  • Educate the public on the importance of these issues and what they can do about it
  • Initiate and conduct projects that benefits most vulnerable section of society

Good old days:

As Nepal is facing major environmental problems due to the ever increasing consumption of fossil fuels and the resulting pollution and the heavy use of wood, timber and similar products as sources of energy that are causing environmental impacts like diminished soil fertility, indoor pollution, land degradation, loss of water sources and similar problems. There was a need for non governmental organizations to aware general public and to assist the government in achieving its plans of environmental protection and to assist in the gradual replacement of fossil fuels by clean energy sources by supporting research, study, discussion and debate and awareness campaigns to encourage the adoption of clean energy. Therefore, Clean Energy Nepal was established as a social, educational and investigative organization by a group of environmentalist, eco entrepreneurs, social architects and experts.

Organization:

CEN family constitute of ten boards of directors, about 30 general members and hundreds of volunteers from various technical and non-technical fields. The General Assembly makes the major decisions on policy issues. The Executive Board consist of ten member headed by the Chairperson. The organization consists of three divisions namely the: Program division, Planning & Monitoring division and Admin & Finance division. Similarly, the Program division is further sub-divided into 3 units namely; Energy and Climate change unit, Clean Air Unit and Water and Sanitation Unit. For day to day decision making and operations a five member Management committee comprises of members from different divisions and units is formed. See organizational chart below.
